The ADBA sanctions shows for American Pit Bull Terrier in which dogs may earn points toward titles in conformation and/or weight pull.

In conformation competition, dogs are shown in classes based on age and sex.  The males are always shown first in each class.  There are three separate puppy classes: 4-6 months, 6-9 months, and 9-12 months.  The first place winner of each of these classes will compete for Best Puppy.

The adult classes proceed as follows: 12-18 month, 18-24 month, 2-3 year olds, 3-5 year olds, and 5 years and over.  The first place winners of each adult class and the Best Puppy will compete for Best In Show and Best Opposite Sex.

The dogs are not competing against each other, but rather are competing against the ADBA Conformation Standard, including overall balance, good movement, and solid structure. There are no height and weight restrictions , since the breed historically was bred for its working characteristics and not for show. The dog can range anywhere from 28 to over 90 pounds however, 35 to 60 pound is average. Any color of coat is acceptable, any color of nose and of eyes is acceptable.  Color disqualifications are: merle and albinism (white dog, blue or pink eyes).  Ears may be cropped or left natural (tails should NOT be docked!).

A total of 100 points will earn the title of "Champion".  Dogs that are ADBA Champions of record may then compete against other Champions for the title of "Grand Champion".  Each additional 100 points accrued will earn a higher status of "Grand Champion I", "Grand Champion II", etc.

Sho-Me-State A.P.B.T. Club, Inc.,  is pleased to have numerous Champions and several Grand Champions owned by members of the Club, including the first three Grand Champions in Missouri.
