Weight Pull
In the sport of weight pull, the dogs are harnessed to a cart that rolls on rails on a carpeted track, similar to a railroad cart. Weight is slowly added to the cart, and the dogs compete against one another for points toward the title of "Ace". Dogs that have achieved the title "Ace" may then compete against other Aces and earn the title "Ace of Aces". Weight pull dogs must be in top physical condition , and handlers spend many hours conditioning their dogs and training them to pull on command. " Pulling on command", as opposed to using food or another type of bait to make the dog pull, is simply a form of obedience training and originated in the Midwest . Sho-Me-State members who attended shows in other parts of the country when weight pulling first began were instrumental in encouraging handlers to teach their dogs to pull on command. Well-trained dogs enjoy the sport of weight pull, and handlers and judges at competitions monitor the dogs closely to make sure that dogs are not being overworked.
Sho-Me-State Club members have trained and titled numerous "Aces" and "Ace of Aces" (and beyond), including some of the most accomplished weight pull dogs in the ADBA registry.
